OFF-season HOCKEY TRAINING - SUMMER 2025

Introducing Attain Physiotherapy & Sport Performance Centre’s 2025 Summer Off-season hockey Training

This summer, we are offering an off-season ice hockey program that will be centered around enhancing an athlete's strength, speed, explosiveness, and conditioning to better prepare for the competitive season. The program is designed for hockey players who are dedicated and committed to taking their game to the next level.

The program has been developed and will be led by our team of highly qualified Kinesiologists:

  • Jesse Sutton, Kinesiologist, 5 QMJHL seasons and 2 seasons of European pro hockey
  • Darcy O’Reilly, Kinesiologist, Msc. Sports Medicine, University of Pittsburgh

Our programs are designed to be specific to our athletes - everyone has a different body & different goals; therefore, training will be capped at 6-8 athletes per group, all of whom share similar goals and skill levels. Athletes will become proficient in the appropriate movement patterns which are essential to optimizing hockey performance. Training programs will also follow a similar sequencing so that athletes will become familiar with their programming, and can continue to train independently throughout their season.

All programs will be 14 weeks in length:

  • Female - 3x a week
  • U13 - 3x a week
  • U15 - 3x a week
  • U18 - 4x a week
  • Junior - 4x a week

The program will be starting in Mid May, and a finalized start date and schedule will be made available in the coming weeks.

_________________________________________________________

Over 14 weeks, athletes will experience a fun and challenging training environment focusing on seven key areas:

  1. Fitness Testing: Athletes will complete fitness tests at the start, middle and end of the program to identify strengths and weaknesses. The tests will measure muscle strength, flexibility, agility, endurance, and power, helping to create a personalized training plan.
  2. Body Recovery and Movement Preparation: The first weeks focus on recovering from the hockey season, addressing any injuries or movement issues. Training will improve mobility and stability, preparing athletes for summer workouts. Recovery tools like heat packs, foam rollers, massage guns, and recovery devices will be available.
  3. Hockey-Specific Training: Training will focus on movements needed for hockey, including exercises to improve power, speed, balance, and stability that directly translate to on-ice performance.
  4. Strength Development: Athletes will build strength, especially in the core and lower body, using compound exercises. Coaches will monitor technique and progress to ensure safe and effective development.
  5. Conditioning and Cardiovascular Training: The program includes interval training for quick movements, agility, and speed, as well as longer, sustained exercises to mimic hockey game conditions.
  6. Group Competition/Play: Some sessions will involve friendly competition in activities like spike ball, pickleball, and other non-hockey sports, promoting overall athleticism.
  7. Training Camp & Pre-Season Prep: In the final week, athletes will prepare for upcoming training camps or tryouts. Goals will be set for the season, and progress from the summer program will be reviewed.

This program aims to make athletes more well-rounded and ready for the next hockey season!

When is payment due?

A valid credit card is required on file in order to guarantee your training slot, as well as the the appropriate deposit as indicated in the google form.

If the balance is paid in full prior to the first training session then this deposit will be deducted from the total balance at the end of the program.

If payment is NOT made in full prior to the first training session, then the credit card on file will be charged on a Monthly Basis and the deposit will not be deducted from the balance.

What is the Cancellation/No Show policy?

No make-up sessions will be allowed in order to maintain continuity within the group structure.

What happens in the event of an injury that prevents training sessions from being attended?

Due to the individualized nature of the training sessions, rarely will an injury prevent training from being completed in some capacity. Training can be modified to work around an athlete's injury to maintain the athletic progress that has been made. If an athlete is absolutely unable to train in any capacity, a "make-up" session will be provided at a time that Attain staff can accommodate, based on availability. If an athlete is going to miss an extended period of time due to injury, refund or credit options will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
